Training in Puerto Vallarta (2)

Spending a week in Puerto Vallarta. My wife, seriously she did, asked me to post and ask where we can swim and run. Running-nice but not too crowded. We are staying at the Buganvillias Resort Beach Club. Any suggestions are appreciated.

I had my honeymoon just South of PV in '97 at La Jolla de Mismaloya. I ran every day South on the coast highway and back, it was pretty safe (not ultra narrow) and had great views. That beacch is about 10km South of PV so if you have a car, you could drive and park there and run South (or take the bus). By the way, the movie “Night of the Iguana” (Liz Taylor and Richard Burton was filmed at the beach at Mismaloya). Alternatively, I think you can run North from PV past the Hotels but I did not do that myself. Running right in town might be pretty frustrating. If you can get some reliable local knowledge you might explore inland, there could be some good trail running in there.

+1 on Mismaloya. When I’ve been there, the water was crystal clear, clear enough that you could see those ugly poison blowfish from 50 yards. I don’t know how much open water there is (I’d ask hotel staff), but what there is is gorgeous. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mismaloya I’d be tempted to swim from the little bay at the river and hotels to the island about 1500m up the coast.

As far as running goes, you could run up and down the Malecon in PV, the waterfront, to your heart’s content. Come to think of it, the expensive residential neighborhoods North of downtown might be nice to run in too. Again, hotel staff should be able to help out.
