Looking for a good beach or lake spot to vacation and train(swim, bike, run) in DE or MD for Memorial Day weekend. The Eagleman area, Cambridge, MD, was a suggestion, but I’m looking for some other options.
Deep Creek, Md, site of the Savageman course. Beautiful lake and scenic bike course.
Bethany beach
.
Looks like there’s a decent swimming beach at Gundpowerder Falls Sate Park - Hammerman Area, near Edgewood, MD. I’ve never been there but it’s on my radar to try out. The Baltimore Tri Club is holding a small event there on Sunday, not sure if it’s open to the public:

If you find a good spot to swim open water let me know.
There is a good Tri community at the Delaware beaches. If you have family, stay in Bethany, if you don’t stay in Dewey(great party town). You can ride and run for miles along Rt1 south towards Fenwick, there are huge shoulders for both, but beware of the wind, it is ALWAYS windy at the beach. As for swimming, you can always swim in the ocean, the lifeguards at the beach see swimmers training constantly, so you swimming will be a normal occurrence for them. I hope this helps.
I think your two best options have already been cited, but I’ll give you a bit more contrast. It depends a lot on what sort of vacation you want and what sort of training you want. Deep Creek Lake gives you a nice lake area in the mountains (East Coast variety of course). If you like serious hill climbing then this is the place and the lake is nice. However, it’s pretty remote so a lot depends on what you and your family like. If you like beaches then the Rehoboth/Bethany area is your best bet. As already noted you can swim in the ocean and you can bike up and down the coastal highway. You can run up and down the beach or throughout the area (e.g., the Rehoboth marathon goes through Cape Henlopen SP).

Awesome reply! I live in northern DE and have family who live at the DE beaches. I also do Savageman every year and spend at least one additional weekend at Deep Creek Lake to train every year. Both are very good options if you have a family. There are tons of options for riding at the DE beaches - most roads have a four foot shoulder.
The delaware or maryland ocean beaches will probably be too cold to swim on memorial day.
For open water swimming, Cambridge is actually a better bet.
Hammerman is not such an awesome place to swim, particularly after memorial day where the lifeguards make swimmers stay inside the ropes.
Riding tomorrow 6 am Bethany beach
