I’m working in Norcross, GA (outside of Atlanta) for the next few weeks and wanted to know if there were any good training groups in the area. I’d like to get in the pool and also do some group runs if there are any in the area.
Thanks,
Dave

hit up the ga section of the beginnertriathlete.com site
.
Thanks for passing this on. Doesn’t look like there are any group swimming or running events posted on the website but I’ll shoot them an email. I also found a Masters team that swims at the Robert D. Fowler Family YMCA which should work.
I wish work travel didn’t get in the way of triathlon training!
There are a lot of triathletes at the r.fowler YMCA. They also have running groups.
Will you have your bike? The Cycleworks in Duluth has a pretty fast WED ride, and a more relaxed MON ride. plenty of ride routes from Norcrosss. for running the neighborhoods behind the Forum (shopping/dinning place) all have sidewalks. There is also Pickneyville Park (spelled that wrong).
I live and work in Norcross, so let me know if you need any more detailed info. I’d offer to meet you for a workout but chemotherapy has me sidelined until Nov. 5th.
gtcbike.org for bike rides.

Swimming: Dynamo Swim Club. They have masters every morning and I think at lunch as well. You will probably have to pay a small fee to train with them, but good for all speeds.
Riding: road bike or tt bike? There is a group ride every night of the week in Atlanta/Buckhead. Tuesday night from sandy springs is fast. Thursday pizza ride out of avondale estates is very solid as well. Check out www.sadlebred.com. they have all the rides/times/maps you could want. On the weekend, Tucker is one of the better ones. Can be quick, depending on who shows.
Running: If you can get over there, columns drive (just off 285) is nice. Lots of trails. Can do the 5k on the gravel path along the river as well. Many cyclist do intervals over there as well. 5 mile loop. runnning groups, check out www.atlantatrackclub.org.
Group rides are listed here:
http://www.sadlebred.com/atlroadrides.html
Also some rides here, a few miles SW of Norcross. http://www.bikeroswell.com/
2x on the Wed night ride at CycleWorks Duluth. It’s 1:30 ride all levels. Reality Bikes also a well organized group ride Wed PM ~ 12 miles north on GA 400 in Cumming GA. If you can stay over a weekend, ride 3-gaps or 6-gaps in Dahlonega - also home to Tour deGeorgia Mtn routes. Google “Six Gap Century” for map. It’s ~ 45 minutes north up GA 400.
Tuesday PM run at Fleet Feet Duluth very close to Norcross. Also, Stone Mtn is not too far out Jimmy Carter Boulevard for 5m hill loops.
Swim - In addition to Fowler YMCA Masters, a lot of people do open water swims at Mary Alice Park - again ~ 10 miles North at Lake Lanier.
Check out the “Flying Biscuit” restaraunt across from the “Forum” mall and Caribou Coffee in the “Forum” mall - and Tader Joe’s.
