Hey, I’m a newbie and currently training for my first sprint tri here in North Carolina. I found a 21 week training program on www.active.com by Dan Empire (slowtwitch.com), but in my newbieness did not realize that it is a training program for an Olympic distance - not a sprint.
So…is this a problem?
Could I work in a sprint before the program is actually finished?
Also, am I training too much for a shorter event?
I did a search on this, but found nothing. I apologize if any of my lingo is incorrect. See: newbie.
The more training you can get in the better off you’re going to be. I’m obviously not aware of your fitness level. But even given your “newness” to the sport I don’t think you stand to overtrain yourself by using an Oly training schedule. Do as much as you can fit into your schedule and as much as your body will tolerate. If your body is telling you it’s too much then back your training off 10%. More training isn’t going to hurt you if your in the condition complete it, it’s only going to make you more fit. Listen to your body though. Good luck and welcome.
