Training by Power - Friel gives HR zones but not power zones

I’ve been building my annual plan around Friel’s Training Bible. He goes into depth on testing/training by power, but when it comes to describing the various workouts, he only does so for heart rate. Does he translate the Zone 1 - 5b, etc., into power levesl anywhere, or are you to somehow figure out what those translate to for the critical powers?

Sorry to be dense if I missed it!

You need to do a few simple tests to determine your power levels at specified lengths of time.

Here’s some reading.

“Training and racing using a power meter” by Andrew Coggan. The .pdf is all over the Net, just google it.

As well as Andy’s great guide, there’s some (not as in depth) guidelines here from me, http://www.cyclingnews.com/fitness/?id=powerstern

Ric! Good to see you in here. Yes, this is the same Aztec…

BTW, maybe you can set those weightlifting folks right in the “Wallsits” thread. Then again, don’t bother, as I’d like them to waste as much time as possible on that stuff while I do 2x20s…

Yes, thanks. But I was looking for Friel’s zones (or even CPs) that are used with his workouts/intervals. It’s odd that he goes into power, then describes all his workouts based on only HR.

i thought it was you Aztec! Been here since Slowtwitch started!

Did you bother to read http://www.byrn.org/gtips/me_train.htm ? Because he has a chart that lists CP to HR.

The table below is a rough guideline for heart rate and critical power zones. Heart Rate Zone Critical Power Zone 5c CP0.2-CP1 5b CP6 5a CP30 4 CP60 3 CP90 2 CP180-CP240 1 Half of CP12

You ACTUALLY have to read (heaven forbid) because his writting is at the bottom of the page.
