Training books

Any recommendations for good Multisport training books?

The Triathletes Training Bible, Joe Friel Also check the right sidebar of Tom’s site Bikesportmichigan.com He has a recommended reads section.

I hopped over to bikesport, sorry, no books listed right now except Going Long, which is by Gordo Byrn?? (not sure of last name) and Joe Friel

Triathlete’s Training Bible is excellent, the second edition just came out. Going Long is great for 1/2 IM and up training. I think it supplements TTB nicely. I bought it just before my first 1/2 IM last year and learned things I hadn’t even thought about or seen mentioned elsewhere.

Training Plans for Multisport Athletes by Gale Bernhardt is also good. It contains numerous plans for different distances and timelines.

Someone that doesn’t know Gordo? I love ya brother… noW shut up before you’re spotted and kicked out

Anyway, the choices are the usual. Your first book should be The Triathlete’s Training Bible. Then if you focus on the long stuff, Going Long is pretty good and straightforward. More “advanced” books are for example The Lore of Running, Better Training for Distance Runners and Swimming Fastest.

The book you don’t hear mentioned much is, Swim Bike Run, by Wes Hobson and others. I think it’s a great book for beginners. Great info, but not too much to be overwhelming.

I found Joel Friels Training bible to confusing. Gordo’s going long and Gale Bernhardt’s Training Plans for multisport athletes are my two favorites.

Triathlon 101 and Triathlete Magazine’s Complete Triathlon Book both read very easy.

Triathletes Training Bible seems to be the authority but it is really tiresome to read. If you ever have a question about something, it is normally in there.

Going Long is my favorite so far. I like Gordo’s swimming stuff.
