My Trainerroad subscription lapsed. I have had nothing but good things to say about it, but I’m probably going to be making my own workouts more than relying on the database of workouts, and now that I have a Kickr, I barely even look at the video data interface (I look at whatever movie I’m playing and just suffer with the kickr. And yes, I’ve used the Trainerroad workout creator - it’s great, I’m not leaving TR because I’m unhappy with it, but I just feel like trying something different and/or not having a subscription based setup. It’s also easy to go back thankfully!)
Have been looking at the well-reviewed perfpro. I’m sure I won’t go wrong with it, but if anyone has gone from Trainerroad to perfpro and has any opinions on the transition or pros/cons, would be helpful. Thanks
Yes that’s a viable option too. I actually used Peripedal in the beta and my comments actually drove a bunch of improvements. I never really liked the interface, but now that it has Kickr support, it would work fine as I don’t really look at the interface much since the Kickr does all the work. May end up going that route too.
I would also like to hear from people who switched to perfpro. Its not that $120/yr for trainerroad isn’t worth it, but if I can buy a suitable replacement for a one time cost that is a lot of savings in the long term.
I also would appreciate the multi user support so that my son can use the kickr too.
I just downloaded that veloreality software (I’m at work so can’t actually test it with my Kickr now) - as a free piece of software, if it actually can do what I’m seeing, which is easily make my own workouts (I like the workout creator better than Trainerroad’s -simple and sweet) and run the Kickr, that would be all I need! (I’d probably splurge and buy a few vidoes as well later!) I’dhave to make all my own workouts (no big preinstalled workout library) but I’m ok with that.
Will try and report back if I can get everything to work.
It’s actually very easy - steps like that are a breeze. I didn’t mean to make it sound complicated - it def is not. You’ll figure it out in less than 3 minutes just by messing with it.
The one on the software above seems even easier though - it’s as obvious as “Add interval”, specify FTP and length, and it shows up. Trainerroad is pretty similar, but there are a few more options - still easy though.
Yeah, ipad app is seriously a killer app waiting to happen, even if it’s not by TR. I’m frankly shocked that no enterprising software-triathlete has rigged one up yet as it would have no competition in the market, even if it were bare-bones simple.
Will try and report back if I can get everything to work.

Cool, thanks. It’s always great to see other developers making stuff for triathlon - I’m hoping it’ll work great for me , but even if it doesn’t, the software looks quiet promising and I hope it becomes popular so you can continue the progressive development. I’ll def keep tabs on it!

Thank you for your kind words. We actually do just fine. After just one season in existence hundreds of customers who are buying tons of videos from us. Sales of our Lynx trainer are also picking up a pace. Lynx is expensive but once people try it they do not want do ride anything else.
Use PerfPro now for more than 4 years and also have tried TR. PerfPro also has +600 predefined workouts in the database. Big advantage is you can make your own workouts (takes less than 1 min). With Analyzer you get a full analysis tool like TrainingsPeaks. If you have an issue with PerfPro Drew (owner) will help you out immed once you have send him an email.
PerfPro also works fine with the Sufferfest videos or Netflix.

So for me the choice is easy.
PerfPro is fine piece of software. We just targeting different categories of users.
You can try our software. Workout part is definitely not as sophisticated, but it is adequate, does not require subscription and is completely free.
This looks very cool. I used TR all last winter and liked it a lot. I spent about 10 minutes reading up on your software and am going to try it out when I get home from work. Thanks for the info and FREE software. Nothing to lose when it’s free!
We use PerfPRO Studio for our 6 CompuTrainers and it’s the baseline of our training. It’s a one-time cost, you own the software, Drew Hartman is really responsive to questions and improvements, it’s updated often with new features, it automatically sends you an email with your power file while also posting to your accounts (Strava, etc.), it talks to you if you’re visually impaired, and on and on. It’s also ANT+ capable so it’s great for multiple trainers or for anyone that doesn’t like the wires. I haven’t found a file type that PerfPRO Studio won’t run, and it’s easy to download a course from MapMyRide/Run and load it up and ride almost instantly.
TrainerRoad is good stuff, easily connects and has tons of courses. There’s a ton of folks who love it, and rightfully so. It’s really a matter of how you want to interface with your computer and what you want to look at while riding.

FYI: TR also has more predefined workouts than you could ever sift through, custom workouts are easy to make and works fine with anything that can be on a computer screen: Netflix, Hulu, Sufferfest, ST Forum, Facebook (those last 2 only between intervals of course), so they aren’t exactly “advantages”, they are nice features of a good product. Nate and team are super responsive too. I brought up a minor graphic issue specific to file viewing in the Chrome browser that functionally made no difference to my usability. Chrome auto-updates, so while always up to date, it’s also a moving target for coders. Therefore, I contacted them only to bring it to their attention. Not only did they fix it in short order, they followed up with me to make sure I was satisfied.
I would say the choice has more to do with whether you prefer cloud-based flexibility and updates or stand-alone software with one-time purchase. There are benefits to each.

Every business loves this cloud model. It lets them have recurring revenue stream. Practically speaking however the customer may end up in a situation when he/she signed up to gazillion services with no money left to live. With the software if you want to save money you can still use your old version if the situation is tight. With online services you’re basically left dry. As a business owner I love “cloud model”. As a person I totally hate it barring few cases where it is natural (like paying for electricity).
And speaking of “cloud”. You can replace this fancy term with “somebody else’s computer”. This is what it basically is. Modern PC’s are monsters that can run lots of tasks and provide quality user experience. Stick it in your basement and have your own cloud
