Has anyone modified the Trainer Road Half-Ironman Plan for a Full? I’m about to start the high volume plan leading up to Ironman Louisville. Specifically, I’m interested to hear thoughts about duration and distance of the two weekend rides.

Not currently training for a Full IM, but I’d probably just switch the weekend ride for a long outside ride, building up to 5-6 hour rides and some brick runs after some of the rides every once in a while.

Sure you could. Take the moderate plan. Every other week, drop the two weekend rides and add a Long ride.

I used the mid-volume plan for IMTX this past weekend but altered it a bit.

I typically rode on Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, & Saturday. Usually what I would do was alternate their saturday/sunday ride on Wednesday and Saturday would my long ride. So I would have a shorter ride on tuesday, usually 2-2.5 hour ride on Wednesday, 60 to 90 on friday, and long ride or brick session on Saturday.

Also, I found that the plan is a bit too much intensity for IM training. At least for me it was. So, I would just say don’t be afraid to dial back the intensity of some of the workouts. For example, I dropped 5 x 20 minutes at 88-92% FTP to more like 82-87%.
