I personally like the trainer better and so do many of my female friends…once a girl gets a good feel for her own bike - she just wants to stick to that. And at least the position is exactly the same and what you’re used to. But sometimes you gotta use with what you got.
Want to sell your KK trainer?
I have been using a Keiser spin bike with lots of success this year and last year, due to the face it has power on it…

The biggest problem is that the cranks are offset what seems like almost 1" wider than standard road cranks…maybe 1/2" or more wider than MTB cranks. I feel like I could do some knee damage riding this thing for long. (OK< not likely but it fees weird).

The seats are set-up for non riders. They are big, wide and tilted nose down like 15 degrees.

The bars don’t go low enough. I know, now I’m nitpicking. Even with my seat at a proper height, I think the lowest position still puts them 1" above the saddle. My road bike, they are almost 2" below and my TT bike something like 4" below the saddle.
I have a LeMond RevMaster and I can set it up almost exactly like my P2. Only differences are the wider splay of the cranks like you mentioned and no elbow pads. I just rig one up.
I use it for intervals and go by heart rate. I know you HR skeptics are out there, but it works for me. Can I “quantify” it? No. Was I able to do a 12 hr IM before doing half my bike training on it? No. Would it be better on my tri bike on a trainer? HTFSIK.
Kreitler Dyno-Myte is the way to go.
I use both. I also travel a lot and I work in Denmark most weeks where the winter has been cold cold cold and dark so I have done more spinning than cycling. What I have seen though at most spin classes I have done is a real mixture of effort being put it. When I have done an hour I am totally spent and soaked in swet where as others seem to be dry and really quite cherpy - this I can assure you is not down to their overwhelmingly amasing fitness levels but down to the fact that they are not pushing. What ever you do, just do it 110%. I also use a tacx trainer linked up to the PC and think its great. I do hill climbes on that as well as tempo work. It gives me power readings etc so its as close as I can get to cycling. but wait…whats that I just noticed outside…my god, its the sun!!! its yellow and warm and all around me! (you have a sick mind if your think what I think you are). I’m off to cycle…bye bye spin bike, spring is here.
Hi M2,
I’m visiting Livermore this weekend (Nov 14-16). I’d love to visit M2 in San Francisco if you have any used Cycle Ops still available. I’ve signed up for a 70.3 this coming August and I’m looking for a spin bike to train with. Thanks!
