Trainer vs. Road - A speed comparison

My trainer (Cycleops Jet Pro Fluid) came with a wired speedometer. I’ve noticed about a 5mph difference (slower on the trainer) than I ride on the road (similar hr, etc). Flywheel is only tight enough to prevent slipping - not excessive.

Anyone else notice this?

What makes you think they would be the same? Speed readings on a trainer are for entertainment purposes only…

Seems to me you could use them as a power meter as long as you knew the power curve of the unit in question.

“speed” on a trainer is a waste of time & effort.

If your trainer gives you watts, that’s great.

Otherwise just go on RPE.

You’d also need to know the tire Crr, the roller pressure, etc., etc…

Speed (or distance) could be used to compare different trainer workouts, but not to the road.
