Does anyone have any experience using Trainer Road with a smart tv? I’d love to watch Netflix & view my workout on the same screen, something visible that is. Specifically if you have used the Samsung TV linked below I’d love to hear your experience or any other recommendations. Thanks.
You will still need a Mac or PC running an hdmi cable to the tv.
With that said, we have a samsung smart tv in our boardroom at work and it’s flawless with the computer hooked up
I thought that was the whole point of a smart TV, that you could run an ethernet to the TV & use the embedded browser in it?
Any TV with an HDMI jack can be used as a monitor for a CPU.
When you use TR you’re going to need to computer to run the program. It’s not run in the browser. You can still use the HDMI cable to run the video/audio out to the TV from your computer, but that’s the integral piece of technical hardware for it.
Trainer road is installed on the pc or mac though doesn’t run in a browser.
Basically it’s like asking if you can run excel on your smart TV.
So if I am going to do that, why not just use the TV as a monitor, CPU for Netflix too, & just not spend the extra $$$ for a smart tv?

And while you’re at it get a TV tuner installed in your PC and you can watch live TV or something you DVRd while you ride. I am too cheap to pay the exorbitant rates for cable TV so I just have an antenna that hooks into my computer, then I use the free Windows Media Center software that came with my Windows 7 PC as a TV guide and DVR. An HDMI to my TV allows me to watch better quality HDTV for free and I have a full terabyte of storage for the DVR. Now I can watch live sports or TV while I ride as long as it is on a network. I throw my PerfPro software over top of the WMC software and have everything I need (I’m sure it works the same for trainerroad). The indoor antenna cost about $20, the TV tuner card was $80, and the TV service costs $0 per month:-)

that’s what I do. TR with netflix streaming on my mac, using TV as a monitor
Smart TVs are still very dumb compared to computers, which is what you need to run TrainerRoad. Very shortly I’ll just be using the laptop and small TV to handle it, with PeriPedal on the laptop screen and Netflix on the TV. Much more real estate for video.
And next weekend an antenna to watch football on the trainer.
Bingo. You have the answer. I have my MacBook Pro connected to 34" LCD TV. There I run Netflix with trainer road displayed horizontal across the bottom of the screen. Works like a champ.
There is nothing smart about samsung smart TV. You still need to connect your laptop or pc to the TV and mirror on TV that way.
You are better off getting a big screen monitor for your PC. I have an older iMac 24" that retired and now use specifically for the trainer. Works like a champ.

Well that would be for you to decide, smart TV is kind of taken as a generic term these days some are smarter and more money some are not really much more but have a few features. The one I have in my gym does prime and Netflix but that’s about it, it was no more money than a similar spec TV that didn’t have it. I personally would never spend more since I have a pc hooked up to every TV I have but this was a gift and the Netflix feature has been handy.
But yeah that is what I do I use WMC as someone mentioned or xfinity online or Netflix right on the computer and TR over that, or well in my gym I run a TV for the show/movie and a second monitor for TR hooked up to the same pc.

Not entirely true, monitors are usually higher spec than a TV and therefore more expensive for s given size. If you have one sure but they have no tuner, usually no speakers and cost more. You can get a 32" TV for under 200bucks, you aren’t getting a 32 inch monitor close to that price.
