I have a powertap wheel and the garmin read out is 40 wtts over trainer road is reading. Do I follow the projected target goal on screen and what they perceive my effort to be, or use their target number and my garmin power number.
just curious. I have calibrated it before each ride. If I followed trainer road its seems to easy.
I’m assuming your PT is wired and not wireless? If not (and it’s been a while since I used Trainerroad), you should be able to tap into whatever signal your PT is broadcasting (ANT+ or BT) and integrate that with TR. If not, I would follow their target goal on-screen as that’s based on their computation of your trainer’s power curve – it may vary, but the proportional increase/decrease in effort for the training plan will still work.
Or, in short, even though the Trainerroad power calculation may not be an absolutely precise wattage, increasing it or decreasing it by the appropriate percentage for what zone you’re trying to train in will still work.
TR is probably using Virtual Power to calculate your Watts and not the power being transmitted from the PT. If your PT is wireless, have TR read its signal and not use your Speed/Cadence sensor to calculate and estimated Wattage.
