Trainer Road IOS

Trainer Road IOS is out. Looks good, but If I am using TR with the Garmin Ant+ stick connected to a laptop will I need to get a new Speed/Cadence sensor to use it with IOS??? Thanks.

I tried connecting via Wahoo ANT+ dongle to my iPad last night and couldn’t get it to control the Kickr. I gave up and went back to the laptop.

Anyone else have this problem?

(1) there’s an existing thread dealing with Trainerroad questions and
(2) there’s another thread dealing specifically with Trainerroad and iOS.

Anyway, I don’t think the initial version has the ability to control your Kickr.

You need the Wahoo dongle to connect to your iPhone/iPad. That dongle will pick up ANT+ signals.

Ok… Thanks. If I use the Wahoo Speed/Cadence sensor will it also work with a Garmin 910XT?

My understanding is that multiple devices can receive an ANT+ signal at the same time (i.e. your phone and your 910xt). I don’t think you can have two apps at the same time on your phone receive an ANT+ signal (i.e. Trainerroad iOS and Wahoo Fitness - both running on your phone). I would love to be corrected on this point.

That’s exactly what I’m using. The power level never changed. It picked up heart rate and cadence with no issues but wouldn’t control/change the power level.

Key word is the dongle receives ANT+ Signal. I’m not sure that the iOS App is designed at this point to control the Kickr. I would review the other larger threads for Trainerroad and Trainerroad iOS to see if Nate Pearson from Trainerroad has answered that question.

It probably cannot, because if you allowed two apps to talk to it one or both would miss bytes in the communication, because there’s no priority for which app’s read commands occur first. Due to this, whatever app gets to talk to the device first gets total control to make sure 100% of the communication gets read.

It’s the same reason you can’t have Garmin Express and Trainerroad running on your laptop/Desktop at the same time.
