Trainer question (9)

I am new to riding on a trainer. Should my tire squeak when I pedal? Does this mean my contact is too loose? Or just that my pedaling is uneven and inefficient?

I have a kurt kinetic trainer. How do i know the contact between the trainer and the back tire is tight enough? It seems the roll forward and back method is variable depending on how forcefully i roll the tire.

Thanks

Could mean both. The KK directions are spot on for adjustment. Grab the back wheel move it down then back up. If it chirps its too loose. Adjust a quarter turn on the tightness and try again until its silent.

You will still always get a little chirp when accelerating quickly, but at a constant speed it should be quiet.

so approximately how hard do i do this?

It seems if i do this slowly = no chirp

If i force it = chirp no matter how hard i set it

I would say a nice fluid motion. Doesn’t have to be super fast.

I had to fiddle with mine for a little bit. I got it as good as I could, started riding and now a few hundred miles later don’t notice any noise.

thanks
.

4 to 4.5 turns on the knob with 100 psig in the tires is what I use.

I rotate the wheel in reverse and then forward and keep tightening the adjustment wheel until the trainer jerks forward with the wheel. I do that for the Kurt and the Cyclops and it seems to work for both.

It also helps to periodically clean off both the trainer and the wheel. Hold a rag to them and rotate…a clean surface makes a big difference.

My KK trainer occasionally chirps as well - even with smooth pedaling and even acceleration. The chirping usually lasts about 20-30 seconds then goes away. The chirping happens 0-3 times per hour ride. It has been that way since I bought it five months ago.

My KK chirped a lot when i started using it. I trued my wheel and it seemed to fix the problem. Maybe something to check out.
