So I finally got myself a trainer. Ended up with Tacx Flow, got a nice price for it.
Programmed the computer thing, and started pedaling. Now I have never ridden with a power reading before, so I am curious as to how accurate they are?
The reason I ask is that I feel that for the 30 odd minutes I was on, I felt the avg power was maybe a bit to high for a guy who “started” riding 5 months ago.
I have 2 athletes that use them and they like them and I see some of the test results. It seems pretty accurate but I certainly am no expert on the maching. Is there a calibration setting? Good luck!
I have recently been trying a few different trainers with the powertap on. The cateye CS1000 overestimates by about 25% with no added load, and the error is much larger with load on (different trainers were similar with no added load, but there is difference amoung trainers with load added). The Elite Axiom is pretty good if set-up as they say (although you do have to put the roller in a long way). Mostly out by 5%, although some rides have been up to 10% out. The lower level elite trainers with power readings were also way off (25-30% over estimating). Have yet to try the tacx (I have been asked to though…). One thing to note was that the instantaneous reading and the average difference is quite different as well…
