Train on Zipp 999's?

I just got new Zipp 999’s…never ridden them or any disc. Should I do a long training ride on them this weekend before next weekend’s race or just break them out for the first time at the race?

IMO, it’s never a good idea to race on something taht you haven’t ridden before. That said, when I got my 909 I didn’t have time to take it for a test spin so it debuted at the race. Personally, I wouldn’t train on my disc since I only have one and they cost big $$. However, I do think you should take it out for a short ride to make sure everything works, the cassette has no problems and your tub is glued on properly. Wouldn’t want the tire coming off in the race!!

Where are you racing?

Have you rode the course? I’d question riding a disk at all. The roads aren’t too nice at all.

I rode the course 2 weeks ago…I didn’t find the course bad at all, actually…I’ve read others saying the course was bumpy/bad, but I found it quite good…maybe i was numb…

i agree, from what ive heard its a good course ride the disk.

first ride on my 999’s, well I did not even get to ride them I loaned them to a buddy since I am not racing, he won!

next day he called the shop and ordered an 808

that 808 is a monster, I was using th 909 disc before I got the 999s

My bike shop just told me the front 808 is the same as the 999 just a different sticker…?

the 808 is a front 999

I have 999s, my front wheel is labeled 999

my buddy’s is labeled 808

same wheel

Your only worry should be whether or not your bike gets stolen in the middle of the hood…not whether to ride the disk. It’s a prime course for an extra sail…

How’s that water temp…it was downright iceberg territory a few years ago!
