Trade Miles for Bike Equipment

Just a quick FYI in case you didn’t know (I’m not try to be the moral police):

AA actively monitors the web (although probably not here) in an attempt to catch people doing this. If you do this you violate their TOS and they will remove all miles from your FF account/suspend your FF account.

I won’t tell anyone if you don’t.

Shhhh

Shit, I didn’t know that. I was planning on buying a ticket for somebody. But man, their program sucks. I’ve been trying to use those miles for a long time, and it’s either black out dates, or 5 planes to get to europe, plus a ton of money in taxes on top of the miles. And not to mention if you try to buy extra miles to complete a ticket or transfer them. I am sick of them and want my account empty.

Anyway, I will probably remove the posting if that can get me in trouble. Thanks for pointing it out.

Sounds like you will get a lot of interest after that post : )

Jaja. I figured. But it’s my experience. I know there are still a lot of people that continue to use that program, i don’t know why. In any case I don’t care that much, I just want to clean that account.

Just a suggestion. Your best option is Points.Com. You basically trade in your points into Gift Certificates to places like Amazon, Best Buy, etc.

I had 280,000 on my AMEX and wanted a new big screen and through their Membership rewards, the one I wanted I needed like 360,000 points. I converted through points.com for two $500 gift certificates, and for 145,000 points or so and $200 wound up buying that same TV.

Much easier to do and allows you to find some better bang for the buck.

Definitely beats trying to trade in miles for a flight. AA sucks for that

You are right. I’ve used points.com. But they don’t offer that much for AA. Basically I could use it for Starbucks or Amazon (which I don’t use at all). Amex points are different I get a lot of those through work and they are easy to transfer to some programs that work very well like Air Canada, Iberia or Southwest. And those I use frequently. But the AA just sit there and any transfers incurr in $300-400. That’s why I thought, somebody might be willing to go to europe with connections, and I could use an extra racing wheelset.

Oh darn. Well, I was interested until you said that. IF and I mean IF you can get it up to 7 plane changes with no more than 4 travel days per month I might be interested. I just don’t like to go to Europe unless I can cross 9 times zones and fly 8 different models of aircraft…each direction.

I think that won’t be a problem. And look at the bright side. You get to 9 countries in the same trip. You can save a lot of money in hotels if there are enough connections.

Sounds awesome. It’s like taking a tour of every European country but never having to get a hotel room because you never get out of airports or off of planes. Sign me up!! Would you take 4 sets of Zipps, 3 sets of Heds, 12 sets of Reynolds, a Cervelo P4, a Ridley Noah, 14 sets of Assos bibs, and a pair of Oakley Thumps as a trade for just one of those plane tickets? With the points being as awesome as you describe them I’m kind of afraid I’m throwing you a lowball offer.

Throw in a Pinarello Dogma frame and you got a deal!
