Bekele ran a 12:57 second half 5k to win the 10k over Gebrselassie. They were knocking down 61 second laps after the halfway point and dropped all the Kenyans like a bad habit.
That second half 5K was a second faster than the American record in a standalone 5K.
Simply shocking. America’s best 10k runner, Culpepper, finished a lap and a half behind and announced he’s dropping further 10k efforts from his career and focusing on the marathon (although he insists he made this decision before the worlds 10K).
