Thats Jimmy Magee. He is a walking sports encyclopedia and can quote stats from any sport anwhere in the world from any decade you can name. He can tell you Willie Mays’ 1963 batting average, how many goals Pele scored in the 1970 World cup and against who, and who has won the most Asian table tennis titles.
He is famous in Ireland for his commentary during the marathon at the 1984 Olympics. John Treacy was in contention the whole way and Magee was getting very excited about his chances of a medal. There was a breakaway group of about 6 runners and Treacy was looking strong. At about mile 19 a new runner joined the pack, fellow Irishman Jerry Kiernan who wasn’t expected to contend at all. Magee couldn;t control himself and yelled (on air) “F**K! THERE’S JERRY KIERNAN!”
A classic piece of television. Magee has repeately denied that he dropped the F Bomb…but he did.
