He got a flat on his rear tire. When I saw him afterward, at the time I did not know he had a flat, and I noticed he had a different rear wheel (this was taken about 9:30AM):
great pics. Dan went down at about mile 8 he said, and it took quite awhile for Chrissie to go by. He felt he was going good at the time, so it sounds like he was at least going to make it to the 2nd lap without getting chicked. So officially he did not get chicked, he has already dropped out before she got there. Broken clavicle, two broken ribs, and possibly a few more little breaks, kind of a big price to pay to not get chicked I would say! (-;
Yeah, she was signing autographs and taking pictures. She is ripped! everybody was saying, “look at her calves!” although she did have a chain stay on her leg.

Dan took the honorable way out. Better to crash than get chicked for sure. But I digress…
no ambulance. i walked back to the finish line, gave the bike to jordan to take for me, walked to the marriott to the cab stand, caught a cab to my hotel, checked out, and PT drove me to huntington hospital in pasadena for xrays.
Ya Dan get well soon . You sure must have a high threshhold for pain. Broken ribs hurt like hell. I would’ve been squirming around on the ground like a grown soccer player yelling for a whambulance.
And no trainers to run out onto the field and hit you with the “magic” spray or sponge and your miraculous recovery, and abillity to get off the ground and play again…
Obviously Landis and Armstrong are well behind soccer in the doping program
the older you get the less writhing you do. no point in it. i’ve been through this three times now, once on the bke about a decade ago, once getting thrown from a horse last year, and, this. (well, once skiing too). the only thing about broken ribs: it’s hard to get in and out of bed, you sort of want one of those hospital beds that rotate you into the forward position

BAMF status confirmed.
Hope you get well and recover soon.

Quick recovery wishes. In the mean time, maybe we can start a joke thread, I think laughter is good for healing ribs…
