Tour of California (1)

I’m sure this has come up already but I am pretty excited about this event coming to California in Februrary… The first full stage race day will start in Sausalito (I assume Bridgeway Blvd ?) and go along Richardson’s Bay and I think up through Mill Valley and Mt Tam. If you listen to the web cast press release the race organizers said course details are forth coming but if you look at the map and listen to what the woman said from State Tourism Borough, it sounds about right. I assume they will head up Highway 1 and then cut over to the east around Petaluma or maybe Bodega Bay. It is an awesome ride through west Marin and along Tomales Bay. Let’s hope we get nice weather. Best part is they finish in Santa Rosa right near where I live. During the press conference they described festivals at each finishing location so it should be pretty cool. Levi Leipheimer lives in Santa Rosa so this would be a very cool stage for him

Does anyone know what types of riders will come for this event? I realize there are some powerful teams coming (T-Mobile, Disco, Phonak, et al) but does that mean they will send their “A” squads? As an aside, the event web site has a section where you can volunteer. I am definitely going to take a day off work and either volunteer or just watch. Should be awesome to see!!

the ITT is in San Jose

thank gawd! I get to see some pretty serious machines.

Yeah, we talked about it yesterday. I’m exicited about it as well as hopefully, I’ll get to see the last two stages.

I don’t have any idea who the teams will send but you can be fairly certain that the big American names(Landis, Rodriguez, Horner, Danielson, Leipheimer, Hincapie, etc…) from those squads will be there.

Hey Mike … ther is an earlier thread over here: http://forum.slowtwitch.com/gforum.cgi?post=599345;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;forum_view=forum_view_collapsed;;page=unread#unread

Last i knew they were coming in through Coleman Valley area, enter town via Fulton then West 3rd

My guess is this won’t be complete “A teams” for folks but teams that are coming from the southern hemisphere season openers w/ a mix of folks … gotta believe many americans on the stated teams will race (Hincapie, levi, freddie, horner etc.)

Gotta say this … It’s really cool this is coming here BUT it’s amazing what the city/county are willing to give up for something that rolls into town and will be gone after they cross the line. There is another local event that brings in WAAAAY more $$$$ for tourism etc., gets people to stay in town and spend money, and has to pay out the butt & jump through hoops just to put the event on

Would be fun to ride out and see them come over Coleman Valley (if they come that way)

Well that would be awesome to see a 128 man peloton flying down Coleman Valley road (not much valley to Colemand Valley) which to those who aren’t familiar with it is a steep, windy and narrow country road. Has a few switchbacks right from Highway 1 that take you up the coastal mountains.

As for bending over for this race…I did hear in the press conf that they will have some ESPN coverage so pretty hard for you to compete against that. I think this could bring some major exposure to the area (not that it needs it). Who knows it could even be good for VM as well since more exposure is good for you guys.

As long as more people don’t move here…roads are crowded enough!

OMG! I still have the scar in my calf from my chain ring when I had a little “incident” on CV riding from the coast. If they take that route, it would be worth camping out to be on the side of that hill.

Just imagine if its raining that day and the roads are wet. It could be like NASCAR…heh maybe Joe Sixpack American might actually watch it then!

Rain? it won’t rain in Feb., not in the north bay. it never rains here in the winter. : )

My first year here was an el nino year, It literally rained every day in Feb. I was ready to build an ark and float back to Boulder. that was before I learned how to dress for the rain, and how beautiful the redwoods and coast are in the fog and rain- Now it’s my favorite time of year to ride…

We could see some pretty wet weather for the race
