I’m considering buying an indoor trainer (i.e. Computrainer, i-Magic, etc.). One of the deciding factors for me is the entertainment value since I bore easily. Do any of them offer directly or through 3rd party developers courses based on some of the climbs in the Tour de Georgia?
For last years March Break as well as during the event I got to ride a bunch of the course. I think it would be cool to re-ride the climbs VR style & help motivate me for when I go back next year.
Fortius/I-Magic has only 2 RLV in the US. One is from Durango, CO to Oury (SP) and the other is a loop near Evergreen, CO. They have a bunch of videos from the TDF, Tour of Flanders, S Africa, Spain Belgium… They are real videos shot from a car driving the route. The darn things look like you are there!! Even Ventox, Alp DeHuez (sp) and a few other famous climbs.
I just ordered the Fortius 2 days ago. Delivery is scheduled for Tuesday. I plan on entering the virtual races at virtualcycling.org.
The only reason I choose the Fortius over the I-Mgic is that the fortius has a “braking unit”. It actually produces tension on climbs and speeds up the rear wheel on decents. It also produces the effects, on the rear wheel tension, of wind. Its supposed to be the ultimate virtual reality cycling experience. I can’t wait to try it.
Once my wife saw it at the Japanese Electronics Show she wondered why I hadn’t purchased it yet!! : )
