Tour das Hugel

Any other SlowTwitchers out there ride Tour das Hugel on Saturday? I finished it (barely), and I don’t know what was worse, the 108+ miles with 14,600 feet of climbing, or the 40+ mph wind gusts. I was coasting down 620 when a wind gust hit brought me to a dead stop. The only thing that kept me from freezing to death was finding an abandoned girl’s sweatshirt on the side of the road.

The support was amazing, especially considering it’s a free ride. People opened up their homes for rest stops, and there were folks who turned their garages into buffet lines. Pretty sweet.

One surprising thing was how popular pickles were. What’s up with that? Are pickles some super endurance food that I should know about?

Yeah, I was there too. Got to be one of the hardest ride I’ve ever done but it was fun in a masochistic sort of way. I learned about a lot of new roads too.

Will definitely be there next year.

Pickles and pickle juice have a lot of electrolytes that will help prevent cramping. The Real Ale ride also had pickle juice.

Yep, I was there. It was fun ride, and hard. The 20-30mph wind added some challenge. I couldn’t believe how well it was supported, and it was all free!
