i like powerbars. they make me happy on long, painful rides. however, i have a very tough time opening them and eating them during said rides, because i got fine motor function retarded when i ride and they get all stuck to the damn wrapper and i cant get them out and i’m tired of eating and poomping out wrappers!!!
Usually cut them into smaller pieces, though they will and do end up sticking together…but it’s still much easier than trying to unwrap the damn things and stay upright.
I don’t think there is a truly good way to do this. This is what I do…
Unopened, cut them in half with a sharp knife. Then unwrap, and re-wrap. That way, they are still covered in foil, but it’s super easy to peel off when you need them.
By the end of the day you will have a gooey mess in your shirt pocket, though…
Yah, I’m in the InfinIT cult too, with my super-secret-wonder-formula (that occasionally propels me to a blistering 9:00/mi run pace.)
But, the OP wants Powerbars. You know, those bland, chalky, sticky, extruded blobs that melt when warm into a gooey mess and freeze when cold into an unchewable epoxy-like solid.
So, Sorry…Bento Boxes and smoothies were the best I could come up with.
Nah - just open the bad boys and stick 'em all over your top tube like I see (even at Sprints which I find amusing as hell). Then, when you finally peel them off, you get the extra protein from the bugs stuck in fly paper effect and the cool stick bike frame …
Or, maybe, Mike can come up with a chalky, Powerbar flavor. Hey, it is “custom” and all
Take the PowerBar before you leave for your ride. Tear it open just a little (about 1/4 way will do). Put it back nicely to the top. Stick it in your jersey. On the ride, pull it out and it’s already opened. You just pull down the already torn part and start eating! No bento box required.
I get the big Smuckers boxes of 18 at Costco. Even the sandwiches are bigger, 2.8 ounce compared to the 2 ounce in regular stores. They really help going over the North Georgia mountains.
Back in my younger days when I ate Powerbars on the bike I did this. I would cut them up into bite size, coat them with powered sugar and then place in baggie. Must be powered sugar, not granulated sugar. Worked pretty good for me.
