Hello, just checking to see if there’s anyone who knows how to teach Total Immersion swim technique within a few hours of new Bern, NC where I live. I’m a slow but determined swimmer and have been getting great help with basic fundamentals from a friend, and want to add TI to the mix. Willing to pay for expenses and time. I have IM Texas coming up so the sooner the better.
Thanks,
Adam
You signed up for an ironman while learning the fundamentals of swimming. Awesome.
The Total Immersion forum would be a better place to look for a TI coach:

Best of luck.
How far are you from Charlotte? If learning how to swim fast interests you I’d recommend checking them out. Olympic coaches falling out of the woodwork, elite pool and open water swimmers galore and a Masters program that rocks the lanes. Sorry can’t help you with a local TI coach. I’d go crazy if I had access to SwimMAC that place is amazing.

No, but I know of a great Cross Fit gym in the area…Screw swimming.
Haha, I’m already an Ironman, but those who think they are perfect and have aced the fundamentals are only fooling themselves. As Einstein said, “The more I know, the more I know I don’t know.” The fundamentals are the first thing that should be honed, and bad habits eradicated, in any endeavor.
As for the others who took my post seriously, thank you so much. Charlotte is about 4.5 hours away and if I can talk my wife into it, maybe we can do a family trip out there and also hit up that place too. I’ll check out that TI site as well - thanks again! Adam
Tell your wife she can go look at Ryan Lochte swim if you go to SwimMAC that should lock in the Charlotte trip!
You know, she just might! She always says she likes swimmers bodies and I’m more like a linebacker, so that might be the ticket.
Friends dont let friends join the Total Immersion cult.
if bad habits should be eradicated don’t do total immersion. If you have already completed an Ironman you should be beyond total immersion

Rubbish.

ex-Swedish olympic swimmer, now TI certified coach. Enjoy the video!
nice video. However in practice the majority who use TI have to ditch it to get any speed. You have to have a very efficient kick that the vast vast majority of triatletes never develop or have the flexable ankles for. Fast TI people are by very far the outliers
edit: though her form is great, I really cannot tell her speed. Do not forget the average triathlete does not keep that body position. TI may be good to get a feel for the water but your stroke rate for ow for most is to slow and the deceleration from the “glide” is costly. For the vast vast majoirty to gain speed, ditch TI. …This has been bantered back and forth ad nausem here so to each their own
nice video. However in practice the majority who use TI have to ditch it to get any speed.
Glad you can speak for the majority who use TI, that´s a great skill to have.
You have to have a very efficient kick that the vast vast majority of triatletes never develop or have the flexable ankles for.
TI isn´t about having a great kick, quite the opposite. You have to have a really good body position.
Fast TI people are by very far the outliers
Fast triathlete swimmers are by far the outliers - every sprint triathlon I observe Mrs Barchetta doing resembles that Monty Python sketch ´100 metres for non-swimmers´
edit: though her form is great, I really cannot tell her speed.
She´s a fast swimmer. She came 11th in the Seoul Olympics.
Do not forget the average triathlete does not keep that body position. TI may be good to get a feel for the water but your stroke rate for ow for most is to slow and the deceleration from the “glide” is costly.
I absolutely agree that overgliding is wrong. But a low stroke rate is not necessarily indicative of an inefficient stroke.
For the vast vast majoirty to gain speed, ditch TI.
Again, glad you feel able to speak for the vast vast majority.
Ok…did not say she was slow but could not tell what she was doing in that video. With that said she could have her ankles tied and comfortably swim faster than most…my talen for the vast majority???/ check out races with TI swimmers…never said low stroke rate was inefficient, ie, bad technique. But I will see you your swimmer and raise you Gerry Rodriguiz for ow.
Listen, I am not here to argue. Search the history here on TI. Show me the olympic swimmers using TI in compition. Show me the top ow swimmers using TI. …oh hell never mind. This forum has loads of threads with this arguement. We choose to disagree and I am ok with being a tool in your mind, Have a great weekend
I’m in Greenville. A few years ago I put myself thru the TI process during an off season. I knew a lot of it was crap, but I do think it made me more comfortable in the water and put me in the water more. Those were two valuable nuggets that I used to build on later with better swim workouts and more attention to swim technique, swim fitness, and the concept that the two are separate but both of extreme value. I have become a faster swimmer since that off season. If that’s of any use to you, and Greenville, NC is within the radius you are willing to burn gas I do help local triathletes with swim sessions at no charge. Message me if interested.
Cheers,
Hi Adam, great news about racing IM Texas, what a nice goal for you.
I race professionally and am from a swimming background, swimming sub 47 minutes for the IM distance. I have had a lot of success with helping athletes with their strokes by video analysis or one on one. Given I have worked with the best coaches in the world myself and have done this for so long, I don’t feel the need to subscribe to any of the methods you may read about on the internet. If this is something that may be of interest to you feel free to contact me. I am based in Greenville SC, but video analysis using your phone might be an option for you.

I don’t think you are a tool, not at all, we’re just talking about stuff. Hope you are enjoying your weekend too.

Thanks…I’ll tell you what though, love you hearing you post on cycling, especially the older bikes
.
Hi Adam, we don’t teach the TI method but we’re hosting a freestyle swim technique clinic including individual video analysis on April 5 in Cary, NC. www.osbmultisport.com/cary.html
