Total finishers for IMLOO

I have a quick question.

I thought there were approximately 2,100 (give or take 100, I did not keep the book with the exact number) entries for IMLOO? The results show 1560 (updated to 1566) finishers and 143 DNF. Maybe my math is not so good, but what happened to everyone else? Were there really 300 +/- no shows or more DNF’s than the finishers book is showing.

How does that rate with other DNF’s at other IM events? I know there was a lot of DNF’s at IMMOO in 05’ because I was there (I finished though).

I believe this past spring at IMAZ I heard something like:

Approximately:
2700 registered
2200 Picket up packets
2150 cross the timing matt to start the swim
1950 finished
.

If I pay $500 for an IM event, I am showing up unless I am dead or dying. I can think of better ways to blow $500.
