Torture porn. (Spoiler)

I just read the mooviepooper.com writing of Hostil 2 and have a question. What is about torture and pain that is entertaining? I’m not talking about your average slasher pick where teens run from the chainsaw slashing crazy man. While tasteless and not entertaining there is the fact that the chainsaw man wants these kids dead and dead quick. The idea of horribly prolonged torture and terror being very graphicly shown and sought after by average middle of the road people scare me.

Some yelled and cried when Imas called some nappy headed hoes nappy headed hoes. Florida couldn’t wait to shut down 2 Live Crew too protect the children but our movies are getting more and more inhumane. It is beyond a good scare and moving into snuff films.

Want to know why people are killing each other? Stop looking at the gun and look what we are putting in our and our children’s heads.

I completely agree. Movies like the ‘Saw’ series are only barely intriguing for the ‘who dun it’ aspect. I’ve only seem about ½ of the first Saw movie and was disturbed enough to still have decently vivid images of the graphic portions of the movie.

It’s the snowball effect. Slasher movies of 20 years ago evolved into the ‘Hostile’ and ‘Saw’ movies of today. The next guy will only try to out do them, so on and so on. Snuff films – I hope not.

I in the Navy I saw a couple bodies. I’d look, look away, then look back, then look away. Is it normal behavior/morbid curiosity to look? Don’t know. Maybe that’s the attraction.

Scott

I’m sure that is the attraction but I read some reviews of the movie and the biggest complaint was it took to long to get to the gore. In the end a chick cuts a guys dick off and that is supposed to some how be great and a real twist. It’s sick.

I have watched some of those movies (I actually liked Saw, thought Hostel was extremely lame). In real life I have absolutely no interest in seeing people suffer or seeing dead bodies. Case in point when the journalist was beheaded in Iraq and posted on the internet I have a couple of friends that spent time to track it down an watch it. I actively avoided as they tried to show it to me. When I pass an accident scene I keep my eyes on the road. As far as the films go I guess I just rationalize that it is only a film and no one is actually being hurt.

I find it very disturbing that there is a market for these movies.

PREACH ON BROTHER!

right on. and for the love of God, there is television show after another with dead bodies; and scenes where smartass cops stand over a dead person with quippy remarks about how they think the person died, etc. it’s incredibly emotionaly detached; this cannot be good for our society.

i’m such a hypocrit. after thinking more about this, i realize i’m quick to put down shows like CSI, etc, but also love Sopranos.

sigh…

it’s not just generational however. I remember as a child being TERRIFIED by “Jaws” while my parents watched calmly, eating dessert yet they would not watch “Soap” or “Threes Company” b/c of “sexual innuendos”!! there is a high high tolerance for graphic violence among folks who are very prudish about sex. this incongruence is something I have never fully comprehended.
