So I scored some tickets to the U2 show at the Rogers Centre. Any suggestions on hotels or some decent restaurants nearby? Thanks.
Stay at the Westin Harbour Castle and eat at the Old Spaghetti factory. Both within reasonable walking distance to the ACC

I simply can’t fathom anyone recommending that restaurant…
What’s your budget and taste? (hopefully they match
)
I’m willing to drop a decent dime on dinners and since we’ll be in Toronto enjoying the city the hotel shouldn’t be much more than middle of the road budget-wise. Thanks!
what kind of food?
Would like one French restaurant recomendation and a place to get some decent poutine.

I can’t help you with the poutine but for French and Québécois cuisine, check out: http://www.lepapillonfront.com/en/
Other good dining options:
The RichTree Any visitor to Toronto should **definitely **hit this place at least once
Canoe (I’ve never actually been here but it always gets rave reviews - $$$$)
Druxy’s (More than “just a deli”, but a great place to stop and grab a a moderately priced dinner as well as a quick lunch.
I also really like walking Queen/King West and popping wherever strikes my fancy. There’s great food at all price & sophistication levels, from all cultures and ethnicities. You’re also a short walk from Chinatown. It’s been a while since I spent much time downtown Toronto, and my memory has attenuated.
Also, restaurants tend to turn over fairly quickly.
Hit up any of the one’s I’ve recommended and I’m sure you’ll be pretty happy. Again, I’ve never actually been to Canoe (and know it to be pricey) but everyone I know who’s been there tends to rave about it.
Outstanding…thank you very much…just what I was looking for!
I second Richetree. Toronto also sports very fine ethnic food restaurants. For instance, I recently have discovered this quite nice Ethiopian place . The food is very delicious and the presentation is quite unique. It is also fairly priced, yet offers a nice ambiance.
A couple of ideas:
-
head to Chinatown for some great food; we always go to a restaurant on the north side of Dundas a block east of Spadina. I have no idea what the name is, but you pretty much can’t go wrong with any of the restaurants along Spadina or Dundas.
-
for really great meals (but very pricey) I would second Canoe or Splendido. We did the tasting menu at Splendido last year. It was stupid expensive, but probably the best food I’ve ever had.
-
head over to St. Lawrence Market on Saturday morning (it’s closed Sunday and Monday, I believe)
-
I haven’t been there in a while and it wasn’t that great when I was there, but the Distillery District is supposed to be ramping up a bit with more restaurants and shops.
-
Can’t help with the hotel since I live here and have never had to stay downtown, but the Westin Harborcastle is a bit far away since it’s on the waterfront and you are going to spend most of your time in the core of the city. Check out Hilton to see if you can get a good rate. They have a great location. I think there’s a Hilton Doubletree somewhere too.
Enjoy!
Thanks! My wife is Thai and is a Toronto Chinatown veteran so no worries there…that is until she tries smuggling fruit back across the border!
Khai,
Thanks so much for the great recommendation of Le Papillon. We almost felt like we were back in Paris when the Kir Royals came out…not to mention the duck confit and some outstanding profiteroles. Merci beaucoup!
