To those who live in the GTA, the Toronto International Bike show is tomorrow and I’m thinking of going in the hope of finding a “deal” on a new road bike.
Do you think it’s worth the time and $ to check it out?
I have never been, but one of the guys I ride with picked up an awesome deal on an Argon 18 last year so I would say its worth a look.
Its cheap to get in. I think $5. Worth a peek. I find huge time savings in having a bunch of shops and dealers all in one building instead of hoofing all over town checking stuff out. Its been my experience that if you are looking for a bike, know what you want before you get there ie. size, models, components, price etc. Its crazy busy there so you pretty much need to make a decision on the spot. Chances are if its a good deal there’s a guy looking over your shoulder with dibs on the item if you don’t take it. I think you can test drive bikes but its in a little arena not out on the road. Not exactly the climate to be able to take your time deciding on a big ticket purchase. Do your homework before you get there and you’ll do well.
Its worth a go. I prefer the spring show, the fall one is smaller and always seems more crowded (maybe due to the lack of space). Some good deals can be had, if you know what you are after… just be prepared to do some waiting in line and dealing with the big crowds.
Usually good bargains there since they’re trying to get rid of year end stock. We usually try to avoid Toronto as much as possible these days, but we’re doing the 2 1/2 hr journey this Saturday…
There are definitely good deals to be had.
It’s not a particularly pretty show, it has a much more bargain-basement feel to it due to location compared to the spring show.
Worth going for sure.
I have found it great for accessories - especially things like tools and racks. Buying a bike for me is more of a process so haven’t even looked at whole bikes there.
