Tornado bearing down on my town right now!

Or at least I used to think that’s what the siren meant. 4th time this month it has gone off, with the same results, a thunderstorm and nothing else, worst t-storm we had, no warning. Now I’m not an idiot, I’m flipping back and forth between ST and Doppler, I have my phone, radio and cat at hand and have a plan if it goes bad. But the friggin storm is sw of me and passing as we speak. Siren went 5 minutes ago and just got the first thunder rumble. Can’t these guys do better than this? right now every business in town will have all guests in the basement as SOP because of the siren. Not faulting the procedure, jus the seemingly “jump the gun” forecasting that leads to it. Any meteoroligist out there? When I was in the navy we used to steer around storms to avoid them, seems to me we ought to be able to judge where they will hit.

That is odd.

We have sirens all over Norman, but despite some severe thunderstorms and tornado watches this season the sirens have not gone off (except for testing on clear days). The shouldn’t go off unless there is a tornado warning, meaning there is a tornado in the vicinity.

Where are you? Not sure sirens would be going off for thunderstorms.

And yes, meteorologist do have a pretty good idea where thunderstorms will track and can provide pretty specific warnings.

We currently have a tornado warning, A supposed tornado in my area. Trouble is, it is currently partly sunny with a lite rain falling, which is not unusual for this area. And while the fringe of the storm brushed us, there was no reason to trigger an alarm on a storm 20 miles away moving the wrong direction.

You better run and get TOTO:)))))))))))))

TV meteoroligist just agreed with what I garnered by a quick peek at the weatherunderground.com site. Quite a high wind shear, but no tornado and the closest it got to me was 20 miles ± 5.

Doesn’t that just mean that it’s time to get on the trainer in the basement and start pedaling as fast as you can?

wunderground.com … The best weather site.
