Tore the labrum in my left hip a while back. Been working to minimize pain and avoid surgery. Recently, been getting hammie pain on runs longer than 40 minutes or when i drop the pace sub 8/min mile. Any thoughts from other sufferers?
More than likely you want to book with an ortho and see about a surgery.
Its not going to get better on its own.
This is something that does not go away. i had the surgery back in august. best thing i did. i tried to deal with the pain too. did lake placid even. in the end opted to get it fixed. dr. phillipon was great. back running better than ever. just ran 1:18 half today. send me an email if you have more questions. would love to help
agree with the others. had a torn hip left labrum and suffered from left hamstring pain.
didn’t get better so i went under the knife last march. both problems appear to be solved now.
phillipon is a great dr. byrd in nashville is as well.
Torn Labrum here too. Did the MRI in early 2008 due to groin pain. I had suffered groin pulls before due to playing soccer and thought this was just a pull. The doctor said that I probably had this for a while and it was masked as a pulled groin. Nevertheless, I decided that I wasn’t going to have this affect the 2009 race season even though when I ran I had some pain in my hamstring and ass cheek. So, I put together a good leg strengthening program from my college soccer days, that included squats, leg presses, leg extensions and hip flexors and of course, hamstring work. This workout has dramatically improved by strength and the pain. I now run with little to no pain and during the last race I felt good during the run. Afterwards, I had some pain but it subsided after a day and I attribute it more to muscle soreness. I plan on completing the 09 season and getting surgery by the end of the year. No way am I missing any races this year. So, to all training with this pain, I feel you because I’m right there with you.
If you hold off on the surgery I would suggest runs < 40 minutes and > 8min/mile until it gets better
.
I kind of agree with the less than 40 min run. The less aggravation the better. Although, I’m running 7 min miles, I’m careful about the injury and try not to engage in lateral movement.
Bringing this back from the dead, but I switched to a racing flat for training and found that it has reduce my hamstring pain immensely. Something to think about. Might help some of you.
