Tooth/gum infection

I have had a below par summer. Everytime I go hard I get sick to my stomach and weak legs. I developed a severe tooth pain this week. I found out that when I had a root canal and cap done years ago they used silver to fill to holes. It has allowed infection in and it is BAD. I am on very strong antibiotics and pain pills. Could this have been a factor in my racing?

I’ve had much worse dental problems and antibiotics, etc., and found no difference in power output.

I was just hoping I guess that i would cure two problems at once. The infection is in the bone, gums, sinuses, I have severe headaches, can’t eat or sleep from the pain.

Yes. Period. Antibiotics will with out a doubt have an impact, as will your body fighting an infection.

It depends on the antibiotics but most have no effect according to my personal experiences and studies I’ve read. It may also depend on how localized your infection is. It could explain lack of form now but it’s harder to explain an entire summer.

Yes.

Tell me more : ) please

You need to have definitive care on the tooth. Either have the root canal re-done or have the tooth pulled. It’s probably not the antibiotic causing your problem but the fact that you have an infection.

If your body is fighting infection I’d say YES. I’d be worried with the antibiotics because of the side effects like stomach issues.

I had a lot of dental work - a lot of it was due to grinding my teeth when I workout and sleep. I wear a night guard at night to supress the effects of the grinding.

If you ate more junk food, you’d be less stressed and be relaxed when sleeping and training. Try it.

If you have a bad infection in your tooth it can definitely affect your overall performance. Your teeth and the rest of your body are all connected. If you had an infection in your abdomen you wouldn’t be surprised if it affected your athletic performance would you?

I’m not going to attempt to diagnose over the internet, just try to find a good dentist and get it taken care of asap.

You’re lucky you didn’t die. So yes, I would think it could have affected your training.
