New experience for me - and the guys in our gym.
He had absolutely ZERO muscle mass. Looked like a famine poster child!
Horrible squat form with these skinny little legs protruding out of his spandex like tooth picks.
Moved over to the Bench and did ok with the empty bar but then fell apart when he added 10lb plates.
He didn’t give up though and exchanged the 10s for the 5s and was able to knock off 5 reps

Man, I sure hope I never look like that!
Actually, you’ve got a good point here; he’d prob swim faster if he gained some upper body strength. If tri were truly evenly weighted among the three disciplines, I suspect the top guys would not be quite so skinny, as they would look more like swimmers and less like distance runners and TdF cyclists:)
What’s interesting is I am a “skinny Tri guy” but my legs are probably more muscular/defined than most of the serious weight lifters at the gym. I love how these guys place so much attention on their upper bodies and completely ignore their legs. They can partially get away with this “crime” during the winter because of the baggy weight lifter pants but summer exposes the imbalance

It gets real awkward when the muscle dudes ask what my ‘calf and leg day’ is. My response is usually, “You mean everyday.” It is pretty funny at how they focus on ‘mirror muscles’ and will essentially work the larger muscle groups (Chest, Back, Back/Tri) in hopes of getting bigger ‘guns’.
I am a huge believer of functional weightlifting, both off-season and intra-season. Plyometrics are key.
I love seeing these big muscled up guys grunting and screaming doing leg extensions, lunges, squats and so forth, then very skinny me comes along, adds weight to the bar or machine and goes to town.
They can bench press 250 all they want, its not going to make them any faster, and that’s all I’m worried about.
Everybody has different strength goals depending on the sport they participate in. I put more energy into focusing on my workout than judging how others are doing their workout. I’m more annoyed by people who use exercise equipment as a quasi camp fire to have all day discussions about life.

This…
Then again, some people aren’t at the gym to train. Some people go to blow off steam, meet chicks, look at their hypertrophic biceps in the mirror, whatever. I wear ear buds at the gym, even without music playing. I’m there to focus on training, the only time I noticed anyone else in the gym was when someone else was using a bench I needed.
