Tom's IMFL TRIATHLON split

Congrats to Tom Evans, great race, great year with two wins

Also it seems to be a good day for Joel Filliol, congrats on some good work.

two wins in a year is quite amazing…

It was a really impressive race yet again from Tom. He’s really good in all three disciplines.

What happend? The updates are a bit sketchy…

Something about a back spasm right away in the run?

Dude, you rocked the bike. My moped couldn’t have kept up with you…

I answered in the other thread. No real problem with the back but it always feels a little tight the first few miles on the run. Normally I take some time in T2 to stretch glutes and lower back but forgot it this time. So I did it on the run course instead.

Thanks Paulo!

Tom was happy with his race, but glad the season is done. He was looking to run faster, but the motivation was lacking to dig deeper once the gap was opening on Lothar. Overall a solid season for Tom! It was great to see him end it strong as recovering from the IMC effort was a challenge.

I wondered about that. A 6:30 pace for the first half and over 7 for the second. I also thought his bike was a little slow compared to his potential. Perhaps holding back a little to have a good run. I was surprised Tom was off everyone’s radar screen pre race. Never again I suspect.

It is clear to me Tom is ready for Hawaii. I hope he chooses to go next year. It is possible to do Canada and Hawaii and win both.

Frank,

Your analysis is pretty close to the way Tom planned his race. It would been nice to lay down a faster run, but in this case it wasn’t necessary to dig more. Tom is certainly capable of running significantly faster and I’m sure he’ll show that ability next season when the opportunity arises.

Like when Gordo is two minutes behind him? I would love to see another nailbiter in the future!

Yes that scenario, or coming off the bike with other runners capable of fast runs and pushing each other. Of course for that to happen somebody has got to swim and bike with him first
