Tom Demerly strike again

You all probably know that Tom’s will do a lot to help somebody. Today it was me. I always wanted a cervelo but didnt think my budget could get me one but Today I called Bikesports michigan and Tom and Mike helped me out and I know own a p2c frameset. When I hang up the phone I almost had thears in my eyes. This guy is great and as I just find out his stuff as well.

Thank you Thank you Tom and bikesports michigan

stef

I’m sure I’ll be saying the same thing whenever Look gets my frame made : (

I lost count of the weeks since I ordered : ( Do the French take months off at a time???

I have no doubt that Tom is a really, really really great guy, but when a guy in the business of selling bikes sells someone a bike, I would hardly say he “helped” you out. That’s his business.

Did he FIST you???

Yeah no one could ever help someone by doing their job thats just rediculous…

??? dbag.

You really really want a product. Store A sells it for 10 dollars. You ask for a discount…no dice. Store B sells it for 10 dollars. You ask for a discount…he says “ok, I’ll sell it to you for 8 dollars.” Store B owner could probably sell it to someone else for 10 dollars, however he makes less money in order to “HELP OUT” someone get something they really really want. BAM!

Bikesport is a good shop, now if I could just get them to ship me that Zipp 404 I ordered a week and a half ago…

I agree. Tom is a dbag.

That sounds nasty…

The economy is hurting. Check-out today’s paper. Retailers are slashing prices. Circuit City is liquidating. It’s a buyer’s market. There’s a reason why Cevelos and Zipps are 20% off (see http://outspokin.net/), and it’s not because Tom is a good guy. Tom while is no doubt a nice guy, he sold the OP a bike. That’s what bike stores do. It doesn’t make him Mother Teresa, it makes him a businessman. In these times, Tom is the lucky one. The OP had many options and Tom was lucky and good enough to be the one to make the sale. Presumably if Tom could have sold the bike for more, he would have done so. No slight on Tom, it’s just the OP’s naivety caused me to respond.

insightful…

Damn, too many people here on ST drinking that haterade. Post a pic of your new bike Stef!

back to my original point… you can do something nice while doing your job. I know that seems to be hard to believe for some of you guys.

correct!..just can’t praise somebody these days without getting in trouble.

On a personal note, somebody from the race organizing world went out the way to do me a favor and I don’t even know this guy. I mean this favor was huge but I know if I post that, it will invite trouble. So, I told him that I was really thankful for what he did for me (nothing illegal!).

That dude sucks and he didn’t do anything too help you. I hate when people are thankful for a good experience. Just shut up because everyone sucks.

and why do you think Tom got the sale as opposed to other shops? perhaps has to do with being helpful, kind, and going the extra mile…we don’t know the details of the sale/situation. I don’t really care to know, its not my business. All I know is that I’ve heard nothing but positive things about him and BikeSport. I have a couple LBS’s here in town that I’ve been to and some of the guys there seem like elitist pricks. Another LBS in town is completely out of the way, but I’ll go to them over the others for anything more than a spare tube b/c of how I feel when I walk in and out of the door.

When I get in the market for a new high-end bike, I’ll probably make the 6+ hour drive to BikeSport to get fit. Why? Because I’d rather purchase something from someone that I’ve seen post on here, providing advice and being pretty neutral on a lot of things.

For me, it’s more than 6+ hours and a border crossing is involved, but if I had your proximity to BikeSport I’d be sharing your mindset 100%. Well-stated, btmoney!

I ordered a p2c like 2 months ago and am still waiting for it to ship. I was happy with the price that bikesport gave me, but their shipping is pretty slow. I’d have less of a problem if they’d not have charged me until they actually ship the thing.

+1 From my only and last experience with them, they’re decent at making the deal just not so good at following through. Live and learn.

Tom IS a great guy (as you should know if you’ve been around here for long). I can relate, because like me, Tom could make more money (probably a LOT more) than he does, but he’s doing what he loves. Maybe you should ask yourself if you love what you do for a living.
