Actually, in this morning’s Detroit Free Press about a triathlete that’s a DSO musician and doing that really long triathlon this weekend out in Hawaii.
Tom’s doing Kona?
No, he was providing expert commentary for the article about a DSO musician that is doing Kona.
It isn’t me that is in the news, It is Detroit’s own Jim Van Valkenburg.
Jim is a viola player in the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and has done studio work with musicians like Stevie Wonder and others even more popular.
I’ve seen Jim perform at Orchestra Hall in Detroit at perfromances of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. While I am far from an expert on classical music, his command of his work is incredible. His dedication to his calling, music, is enviable.
How many people have the courage, determination and fortitude to do what Jim has done with his career, and the talent and insight to be so successful.
One of the really great things about this job is having a lot of great customers, and Jim is one of them.
I wager the same grace, concentration, determination and fortitude that got him to where he is in the music industry will easily deliver him to the finish in Kona.
Jim is a great guy and a pleasure to work with. Everyone here, especially me, wishes him the absolute best race. We’ll be watching on the internet.
