Toes Go Numb in Right Foot on Bike

Hi All,

I’m new to this forum but have been a short distance triathlete for 4 years.

Since I’ve been involved in the sport the toes in my right foot go numb after about 15-20 minutes on the bike, the trainer (different) bike, my stationary gym-style machine and the unit at my gym.

I can “scrunch” my toes to get some feeling back but they go numb again over a few minutes. I stand up in the saddle and get some relief.

I’ve been just sort of ignoring this for years. When I was at the gym today on a new stationary bike (brand new gym, brand new equipment) I went numb again and decided to try a post on the forum that I have been “lurking” on for about a year.

Am I pinching a nerve somewhere in the saddle? Why just my right foot/toes?

I’d like to see what I can do to resolve this before my next race.

Also, I’m using all types of shoes, same issue. Running, cross trainers and bike shoes (2 types).

TIA,

Sean

Are your shoes too tight? That would be my first guess. Maybe lower the seat a bit and see if that helps, too. Actually, it shouldn’t be the seat height. If it’s happening in all those situations, then it’s something that is in common with all of those things. Like I said, shoes could be one thing. Another might just be the position of your foot on the pedal. That’s all that I have for now.

Google: Morton’s neuroma and see if it fits …

Ok let me go look that up.

Try lifting up your foot off of the bottom of the shoe every few minutes, I read an article about numbness and burning sensations in the feet, and that was a recommendation. If that doesnt help, how are you insoles? Could changing that possibly help?

Feet numbness on the bike is usually an indication that your bike shoes are too big and the arch of the shoe is not hitting the arch of your foot. Not sure why you are getting this with running too.

Thanks, I will try lifting my foot some in the shoe. I ride tomorrow if it does not rain and will be on the trainer tonight.

It does not happen when I run. Sorry. I meant “running shoes, bike shoes, cross training shoes” while riding and my little toes still go numb so I don’t think it’s my nike shoes specifically.
