TOC stage 3 (spoiler - don't read if you haven't seen)

Anyone impressed by the Cervelo Test Team’s performance yesterday? That was absolutely the best lead out I have witnessed in a while for Thor Hushovd. 3 riders ahead him, leading the entire peloton after 2 mountains and 115 miles and no other team, including those of Boonen and Cavendish could do anything about it. They peeled off one by one perfectly leaving him the slingshot. Like it was drawn up by a football coach and executed to perfection. Very nice.

That was pretty impressive.

It was good, but it wasn’t contested by other teams due to some contact with cavendish on the final turn that alowed a gap to form behind Thor.

The other teams could not keep up because of the extra 5 grams of drag their non aero downtubes produce, im sure of it

Not to take anything away from the Cervelo boys, since it was a “textbook” leadout…but there also appeared to be some confusion on the part of some other teams (e.g. HighRoad) that made it look easier than it should have been…

Then again, Cervelo executed and the others guys didn’t…so “good on 'em”!

Did you see George pull up and look behind him in wonder? You could tell he was like, where the f–k is Cavendish? And why is he not rocketing past right now?" Seriously though, that entire final circuit looked very hairy. Wet roads and lots of slippery paint. My wife couldn’t watch.

a bunch sprint has its risks. Cervelo executed a great sprint; the others not so much.

What happened to Sastre on the stage? He didn’t finish with the peloton.

Right - so, when is there NOT some contact by those nutty pack sprinters? Not for me, I’m one of the poor lead out dudes for my sprinter.

Plus, there were definitely teams organizing: Astana on the right side, etc. Point is, it WAS wet, lots of 90 degree crit style corners and the Cervelo team were in the middle of the Peloton and ALL of them made it to the front and EXECUTED. Hell of a job.

In this case (wet roads) it was better to be the first team on the train…

thor hushovd is an absolute monster. one of the best sprinters in the world, and he is a former u23 tt world champ.

The cyclingnews article says Fast Freddie bumped Cavendish off Renshaw’s wheel. Freddie is the man. I’m impressed with Dominique Rollin, he was driving hard and kept it stretched out. The highroad boys didn’t have time to fix it when the man Freddie scooted the young guy out of the train.

I read somewhere that when the lead-out and sprint are done well it’s like the long preparation for a knife hit.

It was indeed very impressive!
Hushovd talks in local media today saying that he has never experienced a lead out like that before (…in Credit Ag.), and praising his team mates for the performance.
The HighRoad-train has suddenly got new competition - this should make for some good entertainment this season, can’t wait for Het Volk and Tour of Flanders!

What flavor of Cervelo was the God of Thunder on? I couldn’t tell from the pictures…

It looked like the S3.
