Good Luck advancing your career/business under the Emporer Obama.
that’s disgusting
.
And so it begins…
Beautiful. Now how about we increase taxes while we are at it…
Stunning…and this was over 2 weeks ago?
Can you imagine the hue and cry if a Republican said such a thing and transposed “White” with any other ethnicity?!
Would someone summarize this video? I cannot watch youtube at work…
Robert Reich and Charles Rengel (is that right, house ways and means committee) are having a conversation where they would like the following things to happen:
Money from federal government is spent in states but rather than the projects having to be approved by the states themselves they are looking for a mandate to spend without consultationThey’d prefer that the money went to women, minorities, the long term unemployed who they see as undertaking construction projects as opposed to "white male construction workers"Essentially I think Robert Reich and his mate seem to believe that being a skilled tradesman is not a requirement for being able to construct things, it seems from the video that they believe the money should go to the poorest, least economically viable areas and should be used to get the unemployed and unskilled back in to the work force.
One of the two also suggests that they do not need to worry about the response of the middle classes as they are to busy worrying about staying in work and keeping food on the table for their kids.
This, might be the most elitist video I’ve seen, its on a par with the old senator / representative that used the N word (I can not remember his name).
I think that sums it up…broadly
I just threw up in my mouth…
Thanks for the summary…
It’s more than that. It’s not just saying we want to make sure poor people get these jobs, it’s identifying specific groups of minorities they will be targeting and specific groups of people they will be trying to avoid.
The ironic part is Reich starts out saying the projects need to start quickly yet his next sentence is that it should be the unskilled who get the benefit. Unskilled building bridges? Nice.
IMO, poor is poor. Bringing race and gender into the discussion and specifically calling out one career within one racial group is disgusting.
Someone please send this video to all the unions members who voted for Obama.
Sorry, had a phone call come in…
Anyhow, basically, Reich said that he wants to make sure the infrastructure rebuilding jobs under the stimulus don’t go to “white male construction workers”. His message was pretty clear, that if you’re white, male and out of work, the plan won’t be for you.
The other guy, the black senator or whatever he is wanted to make sure, even guarantees, that a formula will be used to make sure the $$ are directed to minority and poor communities and that the middle class will be so busy trying to work, and feed and clothe their families and children that they won’t even notice what happened.
At least, that’s my take.
looking forward to the spin on these quotes. going to be hard for certain posters to deny or defend what has these two said
Unskilled blacks have been hurt most by being displaced by unskilled Hispanics. Another tough one for a party that will likely push through amnesty after encouraging a greater influx of illegals with this infrastructure package. If the final agreement isn't too specific, much of the money will go to Hispanic workers, a "minority" box can be checked, and these dems can feel good about themselves. Sadly, another effect is that a good percentage of this money will be sent back to Mexico, diminishing the stimulus effect on our economy somewhat.

None of which concerns those politicians (no prizes for guessing which ones) who expect to benefit from the votes of the Hispanics to which you refer.
Does anyone have this video in it’s “Unedited” unbroken version? I’d like to see the full thing because I think a few key things may have been taken out, particularly about how they “Plan” on getting around the states involvement.
I can deal with the remark “White male construction worker” and can almost file that under “Dumb ass elitist dickhead” remarks, but the idea that the federal government wants to “Bypass” state involvement is really quite concerning for me.

After reading the replies on here, I was expecting to see a video where someone was caught saying something when he didn’t know he was being recorded. When I turned the video on, I was suprised to see that this was CSPAN. I thought it would be a little odd for someone to openly talk about an economic plan that specifically excluded white male skilled labor.
After watching the video, I didn’t take it to mean that at all from the language. Yes, the language looked to imply that the money was going to targeted at poor out of work areas, but not at the specific exclusion of whites or skilled labor. The sentence that stuck out was “I am concerned as are many of you that these jobs not SIMPLY go to high skilled people or are already professionals or to white male contrusction workers…”
If I was to say, “I am concerned as are many of you that this prize money not simply go to the winner of the race…” does not mean that the winner of teh race isn’t getting any prize money. It means that the winner isn’t getting all of it, and that it will be proportioned out among other categories as well (2nd, 3rd, fastest swimmer, etc.).
You may still not like the idea that they will be targeting unskilled labor, minorities, and impoverished sections, but he was not saying that they were going to specifically exclude whites and skilled professionals. I can guarantee white contruction workers will be getting their money. The unions have too much power for them not to…which is why there was a concern that it would simply be given to them.
I can agree with the “intent” as you list it and thus why I was less concerned about the “White male construction workers” comment than the idea that they are interested in bypassing the states.
To me the “White males construction worker” speaks to the mindset of the individuals speaking just as it would speak to the mindset of an individual that used the word “nigger”. In short the individual speaking is giving the “impression” that he believes “White male construction worker types” have it easy.
That may or may not be true, but as a “Global statement” is entirely false.
It does concern me that people with this mindset are now running the show, but as you point out we have many safeguards from letting people, individuals and even administrations from getting what they really want.
Now the idea that they would want to completely bypass the states basically because “They (The states) want their hands on everything” is really quite disconcerting to me. The states ARE SUPPOSED to have their hands on everything.

Why’s that? A good deal of the Union members ARE unskilled. That’s why they are in the union.
I think the trades are an exception to this rule and they would be doing the “building” but there are A LOT of union members that would be considered “unskilled” labor.

I don’t totally disagree with your analogy about prize money. But why the need for race and gender. Why can’t he just be concerned that the money helps alot of people that can actually do the work.
To use your analogy, it would be like wanting to make sure the prize money also went to fat black women that finished towards the back of the pack. They aren’t skilled enough to be contenders in the race but still need to get a fat cut of the prize money. However, apparently if you just so happen to be a fat white man in towards the back of the pack, its ok if you are excluded.
