Where’s the Coke???
Is this a reference to the fact that they ran out of Coke at LP ?
Damn right!- $400 and no Coke
.
See this thread and take some of the lessons therein to heart. It’s regrettable that they ran out of coke, but shit happens. Next time, do a non-mDot race. Maybe they’ll have more swag anf coke.
When describing the race to my family and friends, I had only great things to say about IMLP. If there was anything I was going to wine about, it was the lack of coke at the end of the race.
My training partner went 9:39 this year and said he had coke during the whole run, he said: “suck it up pussy and race faster next year”. I other words it sounds like you have go sub 10:00hr to get coke on the run ![]()

or maybe you have to have Coke (snif) on the run to go sub-10h?
(kidding . . .)
Yes, not having Coke was a real bummer at the end. I really needed it. On the other hand, if life was so good as to only have that to complain about, life is very good indeed.
Oh yeah, no Coke and running out of registration forms on Monday morning. That was a major pain. It couldn’t have be too bad though, since I signed up for 2005.
We did get a decent looking tee shirt this year though. It made a liar out of me. I told Graham Fraizer last year that I was going to keep doing the race until he handed out a decent tee shirt. He did and I am doing it again anyway. So shoot me.
Great race.
Also, they only had large and extra large finishers shirts at the finish line. You would think that they might also have medium shirts. Large shirts don’t shrink that much.
They must have brought out some Coke after you finished. I finished at 16:57 and had all the Coke, Gatorade, Water, and soup that I wanted. I guess it pays off to be real fast or real slow.
The also replenished the ice at the stops as I as able to get ice water as late as 11:45 PM! Z
I appreciate and agree with the other thread, however, I think there is an important difference here. From what I have read, if you are bonking big time in an IM, coke is suppose to be able to pull you out of it when nothing else will. The big gotcha, though, with coke is that once you start on it in a (long) race, “you need to ride that train to the end” (I believe these are the words of Slowman). Therefore, if one starts it with more than a few miles left on the run, and the subsequent aid stations run out (temporarily or not) then some people could be in a world of hurt. I plan on using coke as a backup option in my first IM. I am more than a little concerned if the stuff isn’t at the aid stations after I have stepped over that line in the race. Goodie bag shwag, t-shirts, etc. I can live without with no problems. Bonking and not finishing would be a major issue.
They had Medium and Large shirts but ran out of everything but XL in the last hour or so. I felt bad for the smaller people who got what amounted to a dress. Not a major issue but hopefully they will fix it for next year.
I am a fellow 16+ hour finisher at Lake Placid, that was in 99.
Congratulations Tom for gutting it out. I hope that you do another IM, but never have another ‘sufferfest’.
BTW - they were out of all but XXL’s that year when I finally finished. I got a Large in the mail, out of no where several months later. I have no idea if they still do that.
