Iām sure the energy savings from not having to twist your wrist slightly to read it, will be more than outweighed by the increase in drag, since it would be less aero on the ātopā of your wrist than the normal location. 
Iāll just keep getting a new battery and a new strap every coupla years for my current, very well worn Timex/IM watch. It does indeed take a licking and keep on ātickingā.
