All right, I have my Tivo hooked up to my wireless network for it’s evening download.
How do I hook up my other tv in my house to get the tivo programming. I am under the impression that other tv’s in the house can wirelessly tap into what you have on your tivo box.
It doesn’t do that, not sure where you got that impression. The only way another TV could wirelessly tap into the programming would be to use a computer hooked up to a tv. A computer can use Tivo software to download from the Tivo. Of course you would have to have a video card on your computer capable to attaching to a TV.
Maybe that is what I recall hearing, that a laptop could tap into tivo on a wireless.
It diddn’t make sense to me that I could do this on my tv in another, but that is why I come to the collective genius that is Slowtwitch. All hail Slowtwitch. Hail, hail, hail.
The only way another TV could wirelessly tap into the programming would be to use a computer hooked up to a tv.
Or, perhaps, if it was hooked up to another TiVo, both of which had been hacked to add Tivonet, with a WAP, and share a common file store on a file server somewhere on the (wireless) network. Just say(tmPL), it can be done. Whether it is within the realm of the person of average technical ability is another question.
Disclaimer: I don’t have a Tivo, but I know that they run linux, and the tivo hacker geek network has probably already thought of every possible way to hack a tivo to make it do whatever cool stuff you want it to do. I use the tivo hacker geek network as a source for info every now and again on related issues…very smart group.
You’ll need a series 2 TiVo for each TV, both conneted to your home network. That way you can record a program on one TiVo, then watch it on another TV in another room. You can get a (802.11?) wireless A/V transmitter at Best Buy, but I don’t know if it will work with the TiVo. Likely a less expensive approach than buying another DVR and subscription.
