Are Titanium Rotors worth the extra $234?..80g lighter…
Gary probably won’t like this response, but
I have both…titanium and regular. I can’t tell a bit of difference. Both bikes are exactly the same except one has a 53 and the other has a 54 chainring. They are both Zipp 2001…exactly the same.
Thanks for your feedback. So the 80g lighter titanium isn’t much?
Nope…you’ll never notice the 80 grams.
80 grams isn’t much, but its really a question of how much money you have and how serious you are about results. If you have have the money and are looking for every possible advantage go for it. If you don’t really care about shaving hose last 10 seconds off your bike time then don’t worry about it.

Hummm…decisions decisions…thanks for your input guys.
I actually like the regular ones better. For a few months now the bike with the regular cranks is faster…I’m in the process of changing wheels and such…different combinations. But I can’t seem to make the Zipp with the titanium cranks any faster then the Zipp with the regular cranks.
Thanks again. Just curious, what kind of bikes do you ride?
Over the past year I got hold of 2 brand new, still in the original boxes, Zipp 2001’s. I hand built them both to be exactly the same. I’ve had 2 Zipp frames before these and sold them both about 2 years ago, like an idiot. Now I have these 2 and its all I ride. Both have Rotor Cranks in 180mm. One for racing and one for training.
Oh, interesting…I didn’t even realize Zipp made frames! Any pics to share?
Found one:
.
No pics on this computer. I’m at the Inn. I’ll send a few this evening when I get back home (next door!).
Zipp made the 2001 and 3001 framesets until 1997, when the UCI banned them from competition as “aerodynamically too fast”, “an unfair advantage”. I love 'em. I’ve ridden Trek, Cannondale, Kestrel, Softride and a custom Tiemeyer,…nothing even comes close!!
Interesting, but then if it’s banned you can’t race it?
Zipps, and any other non diamond shaped frames are banned by the UCI, which covers international professional bicycle racing. Many local bike races and virtually all triathlons allow them.

One day I’ll get my hands on one of those… one day baby!!!
Ya, I can…see the post just above! : )
2 on ebay right now!! one looks really nice and if I had $1900…I’d own a third one : )
Nope…you’ll never notice the 80 grams.
But that fraction of a millimeter of thickness would be more aero!
Here’s some pics of my bikes!!
Very sweet…they look like twin sisters!
