Titanium Advice - Guru vs. Litespeed

I need a little help. Anyone have a Guru Aero Ti or Tri Ti?

Why one over the other?

And how do they compare to the Litespeed product? Litespeed uses a lot of 6/4 and Guru 3/2.5 - does that really make a difference?

I am a ti newbe so it is all a bit confusing. Any help is appreciated. It is really hard to find reviews of the GURU ti product.

Thanks in advance.

Litespeed = more aero/stiffer

Guru= possibly lighter and more comfy.

my litespeed tachyon is 3/2.5 and i love it, i rode a guru bike but not a ti model so i can’t really accurately compare the two.

If you are not in a huge hurry, I should have my custom Guru Tri-Ti up and running in like 4-6 weeks. I am getting some custom geometry. My road bike is a Litespeed Classic and I really like the ride. I spent some time on a Chrono Alu this last weekend and was quite shocked about how nice the ride was, and that was aluminum! I have never been on a 6/4 bike so I am no help there. If you have ever read any of the posts from Tom D it is all about the fit and Guru will custom build any bike you want or need, and you can talk directly with the person building your bike. They even faxed out a spec sheet on 650 wheels like my current bike. I honestly expect this bike to be a better ride than my current Softride Rocket 650TT.

I am getting some custom geometry, try getting litespeed to do that.

Don’t let Herbert hear you say that. Litespeed probably builds more custom bikes each year than Guru builds in total.

I can’t speak about Guru, but I got my grubby hands on a Litespeed Saber last year. It’s 3.2 and I love this bike. Looks great, rides great, and Herbert helped out big time when the seatpost seized when I switched from American Classic to Thomson (the inner sleeve cracked). My LBS shipped it out on a Tuesday, he made sure it was fixed and I received it on a Friday, just in time for a Saturday race.

Litespeed will build your bike custom …no problem! and at a reasonable price.

see!

I just took my new Litespeed Tuscany for its maiden voyage this morning. It was sweet! My tri bike is a PicanTi so both are ABG ti. One of the best things I like about Litespeed is the exotic tube shapes. Don’t know that much about Guru but I believe Litespeed/QR are pretty much the leaders in creating proprietary tube shapes designed for specific applications. By way of example, my new Tuscany has a large teardrop down tube, cloverleaf top tube, sort of ovalized seat stays and even the head tube is cold worked.

I know there are a lot of awesome ti bikes out there and Guru is one of them but for the money, I thought Litespeed offered the best combination of performance, technology and price. Good luck which ever way you go.

I stand corrected, and appreciate it greatly. I will remove that part from my post.

That is quite the beauty by the way, about how much did the frame set you back?

I do however own a Litespeed that I love, so that balances things out right?

I’ve got the Tri Ti and love it! Comfy, well made, custom fit for me. Didn’t compare to Litespeed at the time, so I’m not much help there. For me it was a stretch to get the Tri Ti, so I didn’t really think hard about moving up to the Aero Ti. Also, I can’t say that I’m a strong believer that the carbon in the back makes a big difference, but I have no road experience to back that up.

Good look with the traditional headset. I hate, hate, hate the look of integrated ones. Plus I like getting fancy colored Chris King ones to match other stuff on my ride…

I agree…that is why I dumped it.

Can we see more pictures of your wife?

Are you sure that’s the wife? Remember Cippo, when they asked him why he had Pamela Anderson’s picture airbrushed on his handlebars – “Because I know what my wife looks like.”

Yup, beautiful steed for sure -

I have a Litespeed Vortex (all 6/4 ti) and a Guru CronAlu (awesome ride for AL and I have yet to find a reason to “upgrade”). I have ridden a Gutu Tri Ti (but not extensively).

Either bike would be great. Since both can be made custom and cost about the same, it is basically just preference. 2 things: the ABG tri bikes “tend” to have shorter headtubes (i.e. more aero, but possibly less comfy) than the Guru (again this can all be custom).

I would personally go with the Guru Aero Ti - very rare, nice ride, custom, etc. Litespeed’s Ti welds seem to be the “industry standard”, but I think that Guru’s might even be better - seriously.

I heard that.
It is actually a funny that some people still don’t know how much custom stuff we do. We even have a specific shop within our facility that only deals with customs. And I can say with confidence that we do more customs than most, including unusual stuff like a tandem Blade (on which Sean Yates and his brother will break a speed record soon), bike frames as big a 74cm and as small as 40cm, cyclocross bikes and single speeds, and most any geometry and configuration people come up with.
Cheers,
Herbert

Notice how he’s got the bike in the forefront and the wife pic on the sofa in the backgroung? Order of priority?

That Litespeed frame looks nice and that’s some nice components he’s got. However the frame is a little on the heavy side right? My vote will still go to Cervello P3 preferably the Carbon for unique and beautiful design, aerodynamics, performance and lightweightedness.

“lightweightedness”

That “word” could only come from an Aussie, LOL! Good on ya, mate.

I went through the exact same decision recently. Both are awesome bikes but I finally decided on the TRi’Ti over the Blade for a few reasons (the Aero Ti was too expensive to justify). My objective was to end up with a tri bike that I would be comfortable in the aero position for 1/2 ironman races and my first ironman at LP in July. At 6’5" being able to stay aero and comfortable for long periods of time was key. When I researched 6/4 vs 3/2 titanium, I discovered 3/2 was a little more comfortable. The Guru was about $1,000 cheaper, which gave me room to upgrade components and race wheels (this was before the Litespeed wheel promo). The custom option, which I really needed, was $450 at Litespeed vs $150 at Guru.

I worked with a local bike fitter with a great reputation to come up with the ideal geometry. Guru was able to do the work without any trouble and deliver the bike in about a month to six weeks (I think this is the best turnaround time I found). The quality and workmanship is excellent.

I’ve now put 1200 miles on the bike, raced in three 1/2 ironmans and basically put it through all the tests and it works perfectly and has exceeded all my expectations.

I believe Tom D. has reviews of the Aero ti and the Blade on his web site that are helpful. You also may want to consider the Saber, which is a 3/2 ti bike. Its hard to go wrong with any of these choices.

No Wuckin Furries Chief,

Actually I’m a Chinaman, well actually Singaporean by birth. But I went to boarding school in OZ, and graduated from UWA plus spent a few years working there. Basically all my teenage years and youth spent in OZ except for a stint in the Commandos in SG cuz I was conscripted. I’m back in S’pore now but I’m heading back to OZ for good cuz I love Aussie and it’s open spaces and varied landscape and I really like Aussies with their straight to the point and genuine characters. My really best mates ever in my long life are True Blue Aussies and I want my kids to experience the same lifestyle. Believe it or not despite the fact that I’ve been back so long I have never felt quite at home in S’pore, a bit like a fish out of water. This Asian way of not saying what they mean and not meaning what they say, read behind the lines thing is just so not me. And over here the fuggin govt controls everything including people’s minds so much so that most of them don’t even realize it.

I wanna settle in Adelaide, and I dream of swimming and surfing the blue waters and ride training le bicycle in the hills there. Shooting the hills with a 1000cc Riceburner is right up my alley too tho I don’t really wanna get on the wrong side of the law in my come back bid. On the serious side I got some business plans that I’m looking forward to doing when I get there.

Anyways Matey, cheers n catch ya later!
