so i plan to get a trainer… if i want tires do i need a new set of wheels?
huh?
actually i meant’ like i heard my tire will wear. so i should plan on getting a new set of tires? or like competing wheels?
How much will you be riding the trainer?
If a ton, or you’re going to have a bike just for the trainer, get the conti trainer tire for the rear.
If it will be mixed with outdoor riding, just use your normal tire, it may wear out a bit faster than normal but nothing too bad unless you don’t get the tension on the roller clamp right. If it’s too loose then the tire will slip and overheat and shed bits everywhere. Also make sure you keep your tires at a decent pressure. Release th roller from the tire after each trainer ride or you may get a flat spot there.
It’s really not necessary to buy more wheels.
well it’s my i never used a trainer, but i would plan on watching tv while on it. when i dont want to go out. i dontk now how many hrs i would long or what not a week. how much do people train on thos things?
If I’m training seriously I do about ten hours a week on the trainer, even in the summer. plus a bunch more outside. I can still get 6 months to a year out of a rear unless it gets a cut in it. Check the pressure before every ride and choose a tire that doesn’t have a ridiculously soft compound for training.
If you do get the Conti trainer tyre, don’t try to ride outside with it. Any sign of moisture on the road and you’ll be sliding on your hip before you realize anything’s wrong…
Anyone have suggestions for a long(er) lasting tire that I can use both on the road and on the trainer? I’ve got a conti trainer tire but would rather not keep switching them back and forth when riding both indoors and outside (trainer tire all winter long instead).
I have a cheap mavic cosmos wheel and the continental indoor trainer tire, and it is an awsome set up. I would highly recommend it.

Suck it up and use a Gatorskin. They last forever and ever. I put nearly 4000 miles on my first pair, and a lot of that was out of the saddle climbing.
Suck it up?
Suck it up?
Everyone knows that gatorskins have high rolling resistance, and therefore aren’t as fast. Very few ST’ers will suck that up.
Ok…that clarifies things.
Thanks for the info…but yes, it would be a trainer tire anyway so high rolling resistance during training can only make me faster
