any pros/cons to Continental Podiums? This si a tubular question, as you guys seem to now think Tufos suck! I like the smooth tread (no tread?).
I think they are available only as a 19mm which is too narrow for my likes. I decided to run it only on the front for it’s aero quality (perhaps by looks alone) and it is also has a bad rating for punctures. I had no problems on the front but Conti’s are prone to have a hop in them. I was given a couple of used Competitions that I used on the rear and for a hundred dollar tire to have a hop is inexcusable.
If going tubular, then I’d just suggest putting on something in the upper midrange or better. For all of cost, and time (mounting), you may as well get something decent. If a slick tread is appealing, you could use a Vittoria Corsa KS. This would be a very high quality tubular with the slick tread pattern you desire. Width is 21mm. I’ve had good luck with them from a puncture resistance perspective so far. Conti’s also run narrower than their size, so a 19mm could end up more like an 18mm tire in other brands.
