Tired neck from ridding in aero position?

Does anyone else get a tired neck when ridding in aero bars? I’m finding the back of my neck gets tired from having to hold up my head to see where I’m going. Will this go away as I ride more? Should I be doing any stretching or strengthening exercises?

Thanks in advance!

You’ll get used to it. Even if you ride in the aero position on your trainer, the added weight of your helmet can cause some discomfort until your neck gets used to it…

I get it too… methinks my head it too heavy

Its called “Surfer’s neck” and it just takes a while to get used to. There’s actually some medical studies done on it, but bottom line is that it just takes a while to get used to but shouldn’t cause any lingering, long term effects. You can do some searches and read up on it, but your more likely to find information seaching on the condition as it affects surfers as they lie on a board with their head looking straight out. They have the same issue as a bike rider in the aero position. Always bothers me at the beginning of the season and then goes away.

2 longish rides this past weekend, and my neck is killing me.
