Tire size on a rear disk

Should the tire on my disk be no wider than the rim (ie: a 21 instead of a 23 mm)??? I am a bigger guy and the thinner tires almost make me nervous to look at, but I alsodon’t want to negate the whole aero point of a disk.

Thanks

I think ZIPP recommends 21… That’s what I use, but I’m only 5’8", 145#.

I think most rear discs are designed for 21-22 mm tires. But, since discs typically don’t ride as nice as a spoked wheel, I use a 23 mm rear and a 21 front for comfort (especially IM distance) since comfort and being able to stay aero = way more than the very slight diff between a 21 and 23mm tire. I’m 5-10" 157 lbs.

Bg Fan,

I gaurantee you that you will not be able to get a 650 tire on a 700 disc or a 700 tire to stay on a 650 disc!

It is best to stick with 700 tires on 700 rims and 650 tires on 650 rims.

The width of the tire it not nearly as important as the circumference of the tire.

Good luck.
