Tire selection and pressure for 220lb. rider

A quick question for the tire experts. I’m about 215 to 220 on race day and have recently had some problems with the prorace 2 clinchers. Flatted quickly on one tire (rear) and blew out a sidewall on the 2nd (rear) after a couple of rides. I usually run them at 125lbs of pressure (I know the limit is 115, but the tire bulges a bit at 115). Used to ride conti 3000’s with good luck (but terrible ride compared to PR2’s). Any suggestions as to tire selection, tire pressure, and use of latex tubes for heavy riders? Thanks.

I’m 6’4 220 … I ride the Conti 4000s (note the s because it matters) at 130 lbs and have no problems with few flats and a good ride … they also have a good crr. I ride a lot. I race on tubulars but I won’t get into that since you’re a clincher guy. I’ve been using the PR3s some, but I don’t like the low inflation pressure limits or the ride. You will get a zillion opinions here, but thats mine for what its worth.

At your weight, I think I’d try something that’s at least a 25c which will allow you to run a more reasonable pressure. The Pro2Race comes in a 700x25C…I don’t think the 4000S does…

I’m 210-220 and have been having VERY good results with zipp tangent clinchers and Michelin latex tubes. I have them on my training and racing wheels.
