Tire Question (5)

I am doing IM Lou and have previously used Tufo’s (I know) in all my IM’s and never had a flat. This weekend riding in the 100 deg. heat I flatted 3 conti’s in 2 days. I have 2 new Veloflex Records (21mm) I was thinking of using at Louisville, with the rough roads and the heat would it be worth the rolling resistance difference to use the Velo’s or stick with the Tufo’s (20mm) for durability. Opinions please!

What kind of flats? Are these clinchers or tubulars? How much pressure are you running and how much do you weigh?

Have you considered putting in some “prophylactic” sealant, such as Stan’s, Tufo sealant, Vittoria Pit Stop, or the Hutchinson product? Some recent testing by AFM shows that at least Tufo Sealant doesn’t affect the rolling resistance to any appreciable degree. Just a thought.

Tubulars, 120 psi on the conti’s and velo’s, I weigh 150 lbs. The flats were punctures. Two sprinters and one competition. I was just wondering if the extreme heat make punctures more likely. The sealant sounds like an option.
